Oscar's Mortuary, Inc. was founded January 16, 1960 by the
late Oscar Roosevelt and wife Grace B. Dove. They founded
and operated the business to serve their fellowman in the
field of funeral service. Oscar was devoted to serving his
community. In the early 60's Oscar's involvement in the
Civil Rights movement made change resulted in the Mortuary
being targeted by the
Klu Klux Klan; Crosses were burned and the building was
bombed. |

His death in 1975 did not stop his work for it lives on in
his children who have followed in his footsteps. The
owners of the firm have been active in Civil Rights,
Voting Drives,
Cancer
Society,
Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority,
Neuse-Pamlico Sound Women's Coalition, Inc.,
Chamber of
Commerce,
Hospice, Senior Citizen Programs, Mental Health Association,
the YMCA Board, Neuse Council River of Governments, Craven
County Planning Board, Craven County Outreach
Organization, the Funeral Directors
and
Morticians Association
of North Carolina,
Inc.
F.D.& M.A. of NC, Inc. and North Carolina Funeral
Directors Association - NCFDA. |

The firm has seven licensed funeral directors and three
licensed embalmers, pre-need specialist, licensed
insurance agents, seven notary publics to assist their
clients in various needs. |

The firm has continued to be active in the area of funeral
